Project Information
Caucasus Science and Engineering (CSE) was commissioned by the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia to conduct geotechnical and hydrogeological investigations for the rehabilitation of the Rioni River Bridge along the E60 Samtredia–Grigoleti Highway. This 792-meter twin bridge is a vital link in Georgia’s east–west transport corridor, but in March 2023, one of its piers collapsed, highlighting critical structural and foundation challenges that required urgent scientific and engineering expertise. Our team carried out a comprehensive exploration program including core drilling, soil and groundwater testing, geophysical surveys, UAV imaging, and structural assessments. These investigations revealed complex subsurface conditions, artesian groundwater pressures. Based on this data, CSE developed a detailed geological and geotechnical model, provided design parameters for deep foundations, and issued recommendations for pile testing, groundwater monitoring, and rehabilitation strategies. The project demonstrates CSE’s ability to deliver rapid, high-level expertise in critical infrastructure recovery. By combining advanced field methods with rigorous analysis, we supported decision-making for one of Georgia’s most important highway projects, ensuring safer and more resilient connectivity between Tbilisi and the Black Sea coast.
